Does Going To Hell Have Benefits?
Jeff Smith

In our society, decisions are made with future benefits in mind. One does not choose a college, a job, a place to live without first checking on the benefits that come with a particular selection.

You may think the title of this article is rather strange. But I was always taught that "there is something good in everything if you look hard enough." Even Will Rogers said, "I never met a man I didn't like." So, there must be some benefits to going to Hell.

No More Gospel Preaching

For those who think sermons are long, dull, and boring, you won't have to worry about hearing any more of them. (For that matter, there won't be any short ones, either!!) Some become uneasy when the truth is preached; they don't like the preacher "preachin' at them." Some of the aims of gospel preaching is to "reprove, rebuke, and exhort" (2 Tim. 4:2). There'll be no more warnings to "flee the wrath of God to come" (cp. Mt. 3:7). If appeals to you, then Hell sounds like a pretty good place for you.

No More Christians Calling On You

In Hell, there won't be any faithful disciples of Christ calling you on the phone, knocking on your door, or any more inquisitions about you missing the assemblies, etc. You won't have to worry about anyone wanting to sit down with you to talk about your soul's condition (cp. Acts 8:4; 20:20). If you think these "visits" are an intrusion into your private life, then Hell sounds like a pretty good place for you.

No More Pressure To Avoid Sin

In Hell, you won't have worry about being reminded to avoid running around with the "wrong crowd." Just look around - they'll be there with you!! You won't have to worry about your "good morals" being corrupted (1 Cor. 15:33). For those who covet the "pressure-free" life, then Hell sounds like a place where people will leave you alone.

Obviously, this article is facetious. There are no benefits to going to Hell - "where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched" (Mk. 9:44). Yet, we must warn about the obvious... these "benefits" are eternal. Once one crosses over death towards Hell, there is no turning back. Thinking about this will surely help us see that Hell has no benefits at all.
